Safest Carriers

Des Moines, Iowa- Trucking Industry Recognizes Safest Carriers, Barr-Nunn Transportation, Inc. among those carriers

The Iowa Motor Truck Association recently recognized the state’s safest carriers at its Annual Management Conference.  Through this annual safety contest, Iowa carriers are recognized for their outstanding safety efforts.  The number of accident-free miles driven, overall safety ratings and established safety programs within the company are all considered in the contest judging.  Officials from the State DOT and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration are involved in the review of all the participants in the judging of the applications.  The Iowa Motor Truck Association, Iowa Council of Safety Management and Great West Casualty Company sponsor the contest.

“The objective of this annual safety contest is to highlight and showcase the trucking companies in the State of Iowa that have demonstrated the commitment needed to operate at the highest level of safety at all times.  These winners are setting the standard and are the recognized leaders within the trucking industry in Iowa when it comes to safety,” IMTA President, Brenda Neville.

This commitment to safety has continued to pay off and the statistics continue to support this theory.  Over the past ten years there has been a 24% drop in the large truck fatal crash rate while the miles driven by large trucks has increased by 42%.  The 1990s were the safety decade ever as far as the trucking industry was concerned and this trend has continued into the 21st century as well.

“A top priority for a trucking company is to have safe trucks on the road while remaining a highly successful company.  The companies receiving this award have demonstrated that they are putting safety first within their organizations. Congratulations on your efforts, “ said IMTA Chairman of the Board, Bob Kohlwes.
